About pattern

Umbra top is worked in in allover brioche stockinette, creating a light, open mesh. Its high neck and long sleeves with thumb openings make it perfect for layering or wearing as a bold statement on its own.

Size guide

Umbra top is designed with approximately 10% of negative ease, meaning the top is 10% smaller than the bust its intended for. Sizes XS (S, M, L) (XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL) correspond to the following body measurements:

Bust circumference: 76 (86, 98, 108) (116, 126, 138, 148) cm / 30.4 (34.4, 39.2, 43.2) (46.4, 50.4, 55.2, 59.2) inches.

Yoke circumference (at the top of the underarm crease): 94 (97, 106, 109) (117, 124, 129, 136) cm / 37.6 (38.8, 42.4, 43.6) (46.8, 49.6, 51.6, 54.4) inches.

Waist circumference: 57 (67, 80, 90) (97, 108, 120, 130) cm / 22.8 (26.8, 32, 36) (38.8, 43.2, 48, 52) inches.

Upper arm circumference: 24 (27, 29, 32) (34, 38, 42, 46) cm / 9.6 (10.8, 11.6, 12.8) (13.6, 15.2, 16.8, 18.4) inches.

Note: It’s perfectly fine if your body measurements don’t exactly match those corresponding to your chosen size. Brioche stockinette stitch pattern is very stretchy and curve-hugging, so a few centimeters of difference won’t be an issue.

Workflow

Umbra Top is worked top down. It begins with an i-cord for the neckline, from which stitches are picked up to form the yoke. The yoke starts with short rows to raise the back, while simultaneously working shoulder increases. From that point, sleeve and body increases are continued. Once the yoke is complete, stitches are separated for the body and sleeves. For the sleeves, you can choose between two cuff options: with a thumb opening followed by 1×1 ribbing, or 1×1 ribbing alone without the thumb opening. Both options are bound off using an invisible (tubular) bind-off. The body is also finished with 1×1 ribbing and bound off in the same way.
